Okay, here's some news--
There IS going to be another HELLBOY MOVIE.
It's going to be an R rated reboot directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game Of Thrones) and staring David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Hellboy.
More news to come soon--

Heres hoping the characters will be closer to the source than the other movies. I love those movies, they opened the door for me into Hellboy as a series, and by extension del toros other films and even lovecraftian weird fiction, but I really want to see a proper Hellboy story on the big screen. Looking forward to this, as I think David Harbour is an excellent choice if anybody is to replace Ron Perlman.

I'm cautiously optimisitic. I'm a comics guy though, so I can't help but be suspicious of adaptaions. It sounds like a they're putting together a great cast and crew.

Much love to del Toro and Perlman for their take. Those are awesome films. I'm just excited Hellboy will live again on the big screen. Marshall and Harbour are great picks to bring him back. Thanks for giving us more of this world.

It will be interesting to see another take on it I love the del toro films and woulda liked to see another but to see a version that is possibly closer to the comic will be great as well, in a perfect world I'd like to see an animated hellboy but keep it in your style mr Mignola, like the screw on head shorts that would be ace

Loved, absolutely loved the Del Toro movies. They are what made me a Hellboy fan. Not happy about how Del Toro and Perlman got cut out. BUT...Del Toro showed very little interest for years and at the end of the day. This is Mignola's baby. It's his to do what he pleases with. Best of luck on the new film. Hope it does well.

I appreciate the Guiliemo vision, but in my opinion these films have never given a brilliant comic climate. I think the escape from PG13 will do very well to deep and dark story of Hellboy.

I'm down. As much as I loved Del Toro's films they never really felt like they "got" the comics. With the exception of Perlman. Barbour is a great choice for a reboot!

There are many problems with the current films. I love Guillermo and Ron. I like the first film and what he did. Ron has the charisma but I think he lacks HBs dark seriousness. Abe, cmon. When does Abe ever use mental powers? Never. In the film he is sort of weak and skinny. I wont even start in on the second movie. Also HB never has kids especially NOT with Liz.

This is a dream shattered in a million pieces. Albeit I love Mike and his amazing creation, I feel betrayed in a way. The film industry proves to be cutthroat and cold. A man's vision wasn't approved. But then comes the "new" version. It feels as it was being cooked for quite a while. Guillermo will continue to make great films. And I'm sure we'll like and even love this new installment of Hellboy. But I still feel like I lost something I'll never get back. Best of luck Mike!!!

I can't believe the lack of respect of some people here writting in anger against mr. Mignola. It doesn't matter how much you like previous films, it doesn't matter how good they are, or how much you like the people who made them. A character who belongs to an artist will get another movie done with a new point of view and a new team, thats it. I hope its a great movie, but if it is not, the other 2 movies will still be there for anyone to rewatch them.

Great news! I love Del Toro and Perlman, but a lot of things were wrong in the franchise , like the weird romance of Hellboy and Liz Sherman ( that never happen in the comics) and the poor characterization of Abe Sapien. Now they have the opportunity to do things right.

Great news! Maybe finally we'll get an adaptation faithful to the spirit of the original stories. I don't hate del Toro or his take, but I'd really love to see something different and closer to the comics. He didn't create Hellboy and is not in any way entitled to make a third movie. Glad you got Neil Marshall for this, and although I'm not familiar with David Harbour as an actor, he certainly looks the part! Good luck with the project, can't wait to see it on the screen!

Terrible idea. The first two films warrant a final movie from del toro. Why rush into a reboot. I won't be watching this if this is true. Complete del toros vision first! There's so many comic books to choose from. This is just a snap decision to get on the R rated bandwagon!

Yeah, no to the hellboy reboot. Mike Mignola may be able to convince the hellboy fans who prefer the comics but after his disrespect to del toro over one petty thing (over del toro trying to gain fan support over twitter), i won't be watching the reboot.

And just replacing ron perlman with david habour with no fanfare, even if david is a good actor, also doesn't put this in good graces.

If hellboy fans want to watch a new take on it directed by neil, go ahead and enjoy but after that big hissy fit from mike, i won't be watching it.

Fantastic news! I loved HB1 (if not for it, I wouldn't have found the comics in the first place), but I really didn't like HB2 that much -- it strayed way too far from the Mignolaverse. I never saw a trilogy in the making, just a series of films that stalled after two. It's clear Del Toro has moved on, so let someone else take the helm. The director and star mentioned are both great picks.

Ron Perlman IS Hellboy!!! Ron, Guillermo, and the fans begged for years for a third film only to be told just months ago that we won't be getting another film. Now you're planning a damn reboot with another actor as Hellboy. WTF?! This is just a slap in the face to Ron, Guillermo, and the fans.

I will wait and see. And the fact of the matter is, we have no idea what went on with the GDT discussions. There is s crap load that goes on with making a movie that the general public never sees. Making a new movie with a new team doesn't mean the other blurays are getting reclaimed.

Like I said, I'll wait and see.

I know making R rated comic based films is fashionable (and therefore profitable) right now, but I loved the Hell Boy films because I could watch them with or without my children and enjoy them equally each time. As a fan of Perlman and Del Torro (seriously Del Torro's monsters are exactly like the ones that have been rattling round my head since childhood), I'd much rather finally get my trilogy than a reboot. Sigh.

Huge fan Of HB 1 and 2. I'd have loved HB3, but I love the source material more. I'd rather have another chance for it to catch audiences & yield adaptations of BPRD and other stories than wait and hope indefinitely. Excited about this development!

I'm very excited for this new movie. I'm looking forward to a new take, a new actor, but the same Hellboy. If it all goes wrong, at least we've seen something new instead of another sequel. Full steam ahead, lads.

I'm sorry but as much as I love Hellboy, and in an alternate world this would be great, but I can't support this. Guillermo Del Toro and Ron Pearlman have both actively been interested in the last year at bringing Hellboy back for a third film, and instead we are getting a reboot? Let them end the trilogy with the groundwork that was laid, instead of never giving the fans the resolution of a final act. Hell even make Hellboy 3 animated (the previous two animated films were pretty good, and had the original cast) to wrap up the original story before rebooting.

The fact that you are ok with this at all, and are even helping write it, has made me lose every single ounce of respect I had for you. Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman fought for ten years to make a third film happen, and the fact that you would do this so soon after Hellboy 3 was shut down for good...that is backstabbing of the absolute lowest order, and the disrespect it shows for your fans is absolutely shocking.

Nah.
I'll watch it but I'll be missing Pearlman the whole time.
Just get him to do it. He's down. He said so a couple months ago.
Not sure why I'm taking as if someone reading this has any authority... or why I'm still typing.

I have to admit, this sounds like a practical joke.
Now, I love Guillermo Del Toro and most of his body of work, but if Neil Marshall will be more respectful toward your material, I am all in. And David Harbour definitely has the chops to fill the lead role.

I'm sure you didn't say "nope" to the royalty checks you got from the first two movies did you? For a niche comic book character to get a movie made like that is huge.. to have a sequel done is amazing. It didn't follow the material exactly. But give credit where credit's due the people that made those two movies..bringing Hellboy to the big screen like nobody thought possible. for the longest time the director and the actors begged for a third movie yet for some strange reason it was never done. These are the people that put a face to Hell boy that nobody knew about except for the comic community. If you were happy with just your comic books you would not have given the rights to a movie studio to have it made. You have an actor no scratch that you have a few actors and a director that is as passionate as the creator of Hellboy and getting something done. But no that's not good enough. And we as fans some are okay with this some not. And I guess you can tell by what I'm writing I'm not a fan of this and I'm ashamed that I was a fan of Hellboy. I was there in the beginning Mike I remember picking up the first comic being Amazed by the artwork loving the idea of Hellboy. And sure we don't know the full extent of everything because everybody likes to keep everything hush-hush. But I could tell you Mike you haven't been very vocal on everything.. Ron Perlman has.. so I'll take his word over yours considering he is Hellboy. So yeah you created hellboy but he brought him to life. And sometimes just sometimes that means a lot more to people. Both the actors and the fans. But you don't get that and it just goes back to the whole thing of how do you like those royalty checks from those movies that he made. Because if you didn't have any of those I'm sure your life wouldn't be as good as it is. So no I won't be watching any of these movies that you make without him.

Sherif Hopper and Hellboy from the comics would probably have a lot in common. I would love to see an Abe with more grit and a Liz who is less of a love interest and more of hard ass. These characters all have a lot of past in their past. I loved Del Toros movies but I'm ready for moodier Hellboy. As long as it retains a strong sense of humor.

ZERO mixed feelings about this. Del Toro had his shot. There are obviously reasons he wasn't given the opportunity to finish his version.

While his films LOOKED good, the story was a weak approximation of the staggeringly strong source material. Liz and HB have babies? No thank you. I do not not care to see that movie. I do not care to see a very real friendship that I know and care about on the page sloppily romanticized on the screen.

Maybe we can get someone who will take it a little more how it was intended. That being the case, I'm on board. Working title of "Rise of the Blood Queen"? Hmm, that sounds familiar. In fact, that sounds like one of my favorite HB arcs...
