Anti-2nd Amendment disarmament proponent Rev. Al Sharpton told a radio caller that it could be time to ban knives as well as guns in his effort to disarm law-abiding Americans for the crimes of the few insane and criminal elements.

Claiming on his radio show on Friday, Dec. 28, that, “in any civilized society you do not see massacres continue to happen," the MSNBC host then claimed that you don't, "keep the same laws when clearly they’re not working,”

“What happens when the criminal goes to knives, Al?” the caller asked.

“Then you deal with knives,” replied the left-wing pundit who never ventures forth without armed bodyguards. “The same thing as if you have a head cold and the same thing you do if you have a head cold and the cold is gone and you have a headache. Then you take headache medicine. The job of society is to deal with whatever problem confronts it."

Of course, as most of us know, cold and headache remedies only deal with the symptoms and don't cure the underlying problem. It might be better to say that "the job of society is to deal with" those underlying problems, as opposed to the symptoms, without destroying our freedom and ability to defend ourselves from the aberrant members of society who will always find a way to commit their criminal acts against defenseless victims.

The lesson is that just as happened in England and elsewhere, for those pushing for irrational gun bans, they are just the first step towards further restrictions and bans, including our most useful tools, like our knives. Ultimately, it is our liberty that is being threatened, based on the lies and deceit of those with another very simple agenda--control.

Knife Rights is the Second Front in Defense of the Second Amendment™."

Someone should ask all of these 'anti' people if they would be willing to give up their bodyguards.I want to hear the reasons they think 'they' need to be protected and 'we' don't.Does an actor or talk-show host or politician deserve more protection than a doctor, teacher,or say,a plumber?

Albert Perez While many do have to deal with some form of knife restrictions or bans, many of us live where there are no knife restrictions at all, or very few. Knife Rights is dedicated to growing the number of places where there is no limits on knife ownership and carry. So far we have been pretty successful, proving that it is possible to make things better in many places. Certainly not all, some places don't offer much hope of improvement, but for the majority, there is something we can do to make it better. Won't happen overnight, but we are making continual progress. Things like this show just how important it is to continue to fight for a Sharper Future™

If you are a Texas resident, please use Knife Rights’ Legislative Action Center AT LINK BELOW to urge members of the Texas House Calendars Committee to set Knife Rights’ Knife Law Reform Bill, HB 956, for a floor vote. HB 956 would remove from statute a number of places where Location-Restricted Knives (having blades over 5 1/2 inches) are banned.

HB 956 would remove restaurants and bars that derive 51% of their income from sale or service of alcoholic beverages, amusement parks and places of religious worship from the places where Location Restricted Knives are banned.

If you are a Texas resident Use Knife Rights’ Legislative Action Center to EMAIL Committee Members and ask them to set a floor vote on HB 956: https://kniferights.org/resources/congressweb/#/43

Please share this with all your Texas friends. The more emails we can generate, the better!

Background:

In 2013 Knife Rights’ repeal of Texas’ switchblade ban was enacted. In 2015 Knife Rights’ signature Knife Law Preemption was enacted, nullifying all local knife ordinances more restrictive than Texas state law, including two of the “10 Worst Anti-Knife Cities in America” at the time, San Antonio and Corpus Christi. In 2017 our bill removed all of the “illegal knives” in Texas law, finally allowing Texans the right to carry a Bowie knife, dagger and others in public. In 2019 our bill removed the ban on carry of clubs (including tomahawks) and possession of knuckles (including trench knives and the like).
Unfortunately, during the 2017 legislative process, as a result of a tragic University of Texas stabbing just blocks from the Capitol, a minor amendment was added to stipulate that knives with blades over 5 1/2 inches are now defined as “location-restricted knives.” These knives may be carried throughout the state except in a narrow list of places such as schools, colleges, correctional facilities, amusements parks, houses of worship, and bars that derive more than 51% of their income from alcohol sales, as well as some other locations. Minors are also restricted as to when they can carry these knives.

As noted above, HB 956 would remove a number of commonly visited restricted locations from the list.

At the SB 140 Enactment Celebration held at Rick Hinderer Knives on Tuesday, Ohio Senator Kristina Roegner Elect Kristina Daley Roegner, that bill’s sponsor, announced the filing of her Senate Knife Law Preemption bill, SB 156. This is a companion bill to HB 243, filed in the House by Representative Al Cutrona.

These bills follow on SB 140 because, unfortunately, without knife law preemption, numerous cities and towns in Ohio are still able to ban many knives that are perfectly legal under Ohio’s statutes.

Sen. Roegner said, “after the passage of SB 140 it is critical that we ensure that Ohioans can expect consistent knife laws across Ohio. That is why I filed SB 156.”

Knife Rights Founder and Chairman Doug Ritter said, “we are grateful to Senator Roegner for continuing this fight for criminal justice reform in Ohio. No Ohioan should have to worry about being arrested for carrying a tool just because they crossed a city or county line.”

Knife Law Preemption is a Knife Rights criminal justice reform effort that nullifies existing ordinances and prevents new local ordinances more restrictive than state law which only serve to confuse or entrap law-abiding citizens traveling within or through the state. Preemption ensures citizens can expect consistent enforcement of state knife laws everywhere within a state.

Knife Rights authored and passed the nation’s first Knife Law Preemption bill in Arizona in 2010 and has since passed preemption bills in Alaska, Georgia, Kansas, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Knife Rights will let you know when it is time to contact your legislators to support HB 243 and SB 156.
