Am I the only person who thinks this worldwide lockdown is shocking? We have all probably been infected with a corona virus at some point in our lives and this is just a new variant with a death rate similar to flu. We don't have a day by day death count when we have a flu epidemic and I remember the 1957 epidemic when almost everyone in my class at school caught flu and one person aged in her twenties in our road died. Yet there was no panic despite 5 million reported deaths - and of course there may have been more. The pandemic of 1918 killed 50-100 million people yet we commemorate the First World War that killed a mere 20 million and forget those who died ingloriously with flu. The media is obsessed with this pandemic and normally rational people are terrified of a disease that most probably would mean a week's sickness if they got it - the death rate is only 15% for those over 80 for God's sake and who knows the death rate for those who are younger as many cases may be unrecorded if people have a minor illness and stay at home. Worldwide extraordinary measures have been taken - governments taking away our rights, ordinary people denied medical care they need whether it is routine surgery, chemotherapy, or elderly people with chronic disease who are denied a hospital admission they need and then die at home from something that is not the virus - but had they gone to hospital they might have survived. Journalists have been imprisoned in many countries for trying to say what I am saying. Ethnic minorities have been harassed in many countries using the virus as an excuse - for example Muslims in India and it is not reported in our news. The story is that this is a pandemic, you must be scared, you must do everything the government says, and the only criticism is whether there is enough equipment to protect nursing and medical staff, or whether the timing of the lockdown was correct or incorrect - limited discourses. The discourse that is not allowed is that the super elites such as the Bilderbergers had decided that the next pandemic would be a practice run for scaring ordinary people to comply with ludicrous measures of control and we are doing it. Meanwhile, the rich are making millions, the working class and middle class losing their jobs, income and businesses - it's like the cure is worse than the disease. And meanwhile in Yemen people are welcoming the corona virus as it may give impetus to a peace process. Who cares that 2 million people have cholera with a 5% mortality rate, that a huge number of people especially children die every day from starvation and minor illnesses due to lack of medical care, and Trump has withdrawn food aid this week. In spite of their terrible suffering they are welcoming the virus as it is much less threatening than war. Let's hope that some good comes out of it. But if 'they' can force people to change their lives so dramatically (and in my own view needlessly, the same number will get the virus but just spread over a longer period of time, and for those the NHS saves from the virus probably the same number will die from untreated illnesses, some of them severe) then they could tell the truth about climate change and get people to give up their dependence on fossil fuels - which in the end will kill us all and much of the world with us. And now I'm waiting to see if I am banned from Facebook for daring to talk outside permitted discourses.

Absolutely genuine concerns and I share many of them. I'm trying to walk a middle line, being responsible, supporting the health system, but at the same time I'm keeping my eyes wide open. I've never trusted government and I'm not going to start now. I'm also disgusted at the degree of power given to the police. $24k in fines issued yesterday. That's just wrong and it makes me very very nervous. The virus is real and needs due attention. But so do the underlying health issues which make people more susceptible to dying from it.

Having said that, yes the numbers are likely to be in the 10s of thousands, like a bad flu season.

Regarding people that pop up spreading propaganda disguised as news videos etc in all kinds of places on Facebook it's also time people got informed about all the totally *fake* but utterly convincing profiles planting comments everywhere on behalf of corrupt powerful pharmaceutical and other global interests. Governments, big pharma and other powerful interests down the years have literally planted fake people using hundreds of fake profiles each, all over Facebook to further their aims and agendas. Fear and targeting peoples emotions is a key way we're all manipulated. I implore everyone to be very careful about who or what you believe and to do your own very scrupulous independent research. This article was published in the Guardian in 2011 and written by a well known highly respected journalist and shows how sophisticated the methods were even then. We're 9 years ahead of that now and it's become even more sophisticated. Please learn how and what they do - it's quite extraordinary - to protect your own mind from terrible manipulation. I think the sensible rallying cry right now is for a random antibody survey to determine the actual extent of the virus, then we can learn the actual death rate, right now we are flying blind and we have the right to know the truth before a lockdown like this.

Covid 19 is 20 times more deadly than flu. That is the simple answer. It is not flu, it is completely different. It causes a wide range of effects and even those who recover have shown a that they can have 30% lung damage - in fact, THIRTY percent of those that recover show this. There is also bran involvement and bowel, both of which they have no idea of ramifications of. ths is not a cold and certainly not flu. Spanish flu was so serious because people were suffering the effects of poor diet and the effects of war years on their immune system, plus the fact it was quite catchy and loads of people fell ill at once. But it was just flu. Later editions mutated slightly and it became less dangerous. We can hope that happens with this covid, but it is so unlike anything they have seen with such a range of symptoms that who knows? What is more, we have vaccines against flu. the sickest and the frail and those like me who are vulnerable to flu (diabetes type 1 and asthma) are vulnerable to flu, BUT we are all offered a vaccine. We cannot be vaccinated against this until there is one so the best way to keep a considerable portion of the population safe is keep them indoors until the curve flattens and the hospitals can cope with the people who get it in the first waves. Otherwise you have a health service with even more stressed doctors - you think that's a good idea? Perhaps you'd like to be the mother of a young Dr, friends of mine are, and are worried sick. UNLIKe flu, the more you are exposed to this virus the sicker you get and the more likely you are to die even if young and fit - which is why all the doctors are dying. Is that something you see as sensible? The best course is to wait out the vaccine. It's clear you haven't been reading the scientific analysis of this situation.

Tbh after posting various things about Staying Home To Save Lives, I actually think that the planet would benefit enormously from 50 to 100 million less people on it, and as no one seems willing or able to engage in conscious birth control, an epidemic is the next best thing. It is only 'heartless' in terms of individual pain and loss, but on a planetary level it would be good news.
I have been advocating since the beginning of the year for vast swathes of the earth to be sectioned off from human use, and given back to the animals, hopefully the epidemic will show us where the best places for that would be in every municipality and country across the globe.
This would I believe allow the ecosystem that is the earth to come back into alignment, a better expression of its 'Nature'.
People generally become sick from living in places not fit for human habitation, this one of the major issues, and will not be such a leap in understanding for many people.

That depends on the statistics you look at but some give the death rate overall as 0.5 % and that compares with flu - probably a bit better than flu stats. But unless we have a ‘new’ flu virus like the Asian flu there will be more people resistant to ‘normal’ flu where a proportion of the population are resistant either by earlier disease or vaccination. Yet there is no definite hope of a vaccination - so the same numbers are likely to die - but spread over a longer period. Meanwhile some are being denied treatment such as chemotherapy and over 70s who need hospital admission stay at home and without treatment they die. And I don’t know how long we can continue this sort of life without serious health or financial repercussions and people die from poverty. It’s not easy to think what is the right way but I am concerned that the pandemic is overdone by the media and people are put into a panic. I don’t know if you saw my earlier post where I questioned the panic - I’m not against advice nor self isolation if that’s what people want to do but I am concerned about the draconian measures taken all over the world - and the media’s relative low interest in other issues that cause more death and suffering such as war and climate emergency.

'limited discourses' is that like saying the orofit margin on iron lung is astounding, plus the? Is the vaccine worse than the disease... Applying a band-aid we then daren't rip off. Lungs must be a diagnostic enigma. Don't know about B'burgers but these elite clubs fatigue me as they are not moving with the times but, again, age old dilemma how to convince someone whose pay check depends on not letting the penny drop? Maybe the Yemenis hold the key but I'd rather be banned than go out on such a limb, nightmare that starvation still runs riot while I can understand we can't bolt the doors to everyone, who is undeserving of compassion? 'Some good' comes out of everything, ask an old person if you can. I think the fact that corona 'becomes' covid is starting to ring alarms in a certain cohort of IngSoc.

Sweden’s Health service may be in a better state than the UK’s. My belief is that confinement will prevent the health service being overwhelmed, and leaving people without the palliative care they need as they die. I also believe will all get the virus eventually.
