FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The Men and Women of Hingham Firefighters Local 2398 proudly support our brothers and sisters in blue. Our members recently displayed this support in the form of flying the “Thin Blue Line” American Flag on our fire apparatus. The flags were recently put on the apparatus leading up to the anniversary of the senseless murder of officer Michael Chesna in our neighboring community of Weymouth. We continued to fly the flags after the anniversary in support of the law enforcement officers in our own community, as well as all law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line every day. At NO TIME, was this meant to be a political statement in any way. Nor was it an attempt to show support for, or against, any specific political party or advocacy group. A complaint was made to the town in reference to the flags and it was determined that flying the flags on the apparatus was a violation of a town policy. While the members of Local 2398 are not pleased with the decision to remove the flags, we will continue our unwavering support for all the men and women of law enforcement who bravely protect their communities day in and day out. We will always Back The Blue.

-Local 2398 President

This is infuriating and should never have been allowed to happen. Thank you Hingham FD for supporting Hingham PD. You are all the bravest of the brave and deserve unconditional support! 💙👮‍♂️🙏🏻

No explanation needed 2398...You are doing the right thing...though there should be an explanation from a town leader who chose to politicize support of PD....which should be universal.

What an embarrassment...

The flag is in memory of the fallen police, anyone offended especially a safe space kid from Hingham who wrote to the Hinghsm fire department needs a dose of reality, serve this country or ride a long with the police and see their world for a day.

Thank you for posting this information. Would you be able to share the actual town policy that details what flags can be flown on a public building or piece of equipment?

The Thin Blue Line has nothing to do with BLM and has been representative of civil order for 100s of years. Wake up America! Stop bowing down to this mentality! Next we’ll remove all lines, include the black mourning ribbon/line! Stop the madness! Stop the cancel culture! Stop the ignorance!

Hope the firefighters just put the flags back on the trucks. What are they going to do, fire the whole fire department?

Wow...how sad! I'm from a small town in GA, where we only have a volunteer fire department. The volunteers are so appreciated and loved by our community, just as our amazing Police department is. Today it's a back the blue flag, if this kind of behavior is accepted it's going to be the American flag next.

Where are the rights of the people that honor, support and love what these men and women are doing for us every day and putting their life's on the line?

"Meaning of the Thin Blue Line Flag: The Blue represents the officer and the courage they find deep inside when faced with insurmountable odds. The Black background was designed as a constant reminder of our fallen brother and sister officers. The Line is what police officers protect, the barrier between anarchy and a civilized society, between order and chaos, between respect for decency and lawlessness. Together they symbolize the camaraderie law enforcement officers all share, a brotherhood like none other." I am so sorry that you all were forced to remove something that shows brotherhood and sisterhood just like our red line. I pray that the morons (i could say what i really feel but keeping it pg) think that its not ok. #thinblueline #backtheblue #noonefightsalone

I am saddened and a bit miffed hearing this. I support the blue, red, green and red & white stripes and the blue stars of our country's flag. I admire you taking the high road with your post. Thank you for all you do. May the heavens watch over you all and may you continue your Restful Peace Officer Chesna.

The young "man" who wrote the complaint needs to spend some time in a squad car. Or worse, lose someone he loves or respects in the LINE of duty. Perhaps them, he wont be so offended. He needs to have his keyboard taken away from him.

So tired of a small few that complain and everyone having to bow down to their mindset. What about the far greater numbers that support? Coming from a family of both firefighters and police, we support you!

This should not be an issue!! Do not cave to their barbaric attitudes! Why can they paint Black Lives Matter all over every street across the nation to show support but we need to bow down, back down and be ashamed to show support for our friends in Blue?!?!?! 😡😡😡😡

Who cares if it's offensive to SOME. AMERICA. FREEDOM. Since when do the rights of offended assclowns matter more than rights of those faithful Patriots that are not offended? We're all equal. I find the council's actions offensive, that means they should cease and desist....

They need to publish the name of the person who complained. They publish the names of officers now, the complainers shouldn’t be allowed to hide behind their cowardice. Keep the flags flying. What ever happened to majority rules!

Well brothers in blue seeing that the politicians don’t want to have your back. Maybe it’s time you stop having theirs. If they don’t want to show you the rules. Then I suggest you guys show them the door in November and vote them out. Outstanding job boys and red

SAVE THE DATE: Monday September 13, 2021 for the 6th Annual Big Rico Classic!!!

We so look forward to welcoming everybody back for a great day on the golf course and to support a great cause... and we are excited to announce proceeds from the event will benefit the Hingham Police K9 Unit!

Did you know that the K9 unit is primarily funded by donations? Donated funds are used to buy everything needed for the dogs' daily life such as food, treats, cages, kennels, and leashes, as well as to equip the two specialty cruisers needed for the dogs to be on patrol. Donations also help to defray any medical costs incurred for the two dogs. Let's do our part and rally behind those who serve our community day in and day out!!!

Be on the look-out for further information on event details, registration and much more!!!
