The Clinton County Sheriff's Office is currently monitoring an incident in the parking lot of the East Olive Elementary School in Olive Township. At this time this incident is contained and there is no danger to anyone in the area. The school has been closed all school year and there are no students in any danger. The roads that lead past the school are closed to keep everyone safe and will remain closed until the incident is resolved.
Not only Dewitt Twp, but all of Clinton County lost an amazing man. He will be greatly missed and irreplaceable. We are praying for his family, friends and coworkers.
It is with a great deal of sadness that we share with you the death a beloved member of our community and Police Department. One of our Officers, Sergeant Bill Darnell, unexpectedly passed away last night from complications of the coronavirus. His passing represents an enormous personal loss to each and every one of us.
Our most heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers are with his wife, three children and the entire Darnell family.
It has been brought to our attention that a subject posing as Sgt Jenkins is attempting to extort money from residents in our county. We DO NOT have anyone by that name that works for the Clinton County Sheriffs Office and no police agency would ever call and tell you to send them money or face jail. This is a SCAM!! Many of these scams will ask you to pay them in gift cards. No legitimate business of any kind would ever ask anyone to pay in gift cards. This is a sure sign of a scam and if you have any questions about a phone call like this, please call our office.
