A Message to Our Community

We want to acknowledge that the Oct. 3 City Council meeting was targeted by those wishing to spread hateful and hurtful speech. We express our deepest empathy to anyone who witnessed this display of bigotry and reaffirm our commitment to maintaining safe and welcoming environments for all who choose to call our community home.

We stand united against acts of intolerance of any kind toward the valued members of our community who together make us stronger. While we can’t prevent behavior of this kind from being repeated in the future, we will be doing our best to improve processes so that we remain prepared. We ask that you continue to participate in your local government on issues important to you and support one another during this time.

Sorry to hear that happened. Thanks for acknowledging Filipino-American History Month. My late grandfather Almuete would have appreciated it as well.

There are so many factions at work here, it's hard to know where to start. Homelessness, anger, hostility, bigotry are all tied together. We have a country in danger of becoming white nationalist. Firstly, the City has my sympathy for having to experience that. It's a symptom of a society in decline and hopefully a huge wake up call. Beaverton is no longer a sleepy, 1950s style suburb in spite of all efforts to keep it that way. Signs should be up in the windows of every single business that say "You are safe here, regardless of color, race, nationality, gender identity or sexual orientation." The City should be posting a statement in the City Hall lobby to that effect and that anything less will not be tolerated. Work on getting rents to come down. Stop building luxury apartments. Make affordable mental health treatment a priority. The list is endless, more than can be expressed here. Get ideas from the Beaverton Family Resource Center; they know the grassroots needs of the community.

That’s really unfortunate that adults can’t act like adults. As a 60 year resident of Beaverton, I’m proud to know that most of my fellow community members are kind and compassionate humans.

All it took was someone dying on the library bench, NOW it’s time to take it seriously? 🥴🙈

As a former 17 year resident of downtown Beaverton, I’m so glad I don’t have to hear the fighting, the sirens, the screaming mental breakdowns. And that’s only a part of it. Why is the constant loitering at the library even allowed? Are city officials so out of touch or is it that they just don’t live in Beaverton? 😂🙈

You know it was one of those nutjobs in the eastern part of the state that wants to be an Idahoan.
