Anyone can turn a multi-million dollar inheritance into more money, but all the money in the world won't make you as smart as Ben Carson.
There is a serious misunderstanding about leadership in our society today. Our culture—the culture of 15 minutes of fame, instant gratification, self-absorption, and self-indulgence—has led us to believe that leaders are the people with the fancy titles and the big offices. Leadership is not about title, position, or power. Those things can certainly help you if you are a leader, but they are not the qualities that make you a leader.

Formal evaluations can be tricky because they need to be built on objective criteria – but they also need to be designed in a way that takes into account each person’s unique experience and background. This does not mean compromising standards – quite the opposite. You need to hold everyone to objectively high standards – and you need to provide a holistic evaluation of their performance.
