Homemade self watering planters made with 5 gal buckets. The black/brown part is perforated corrugated drain tube and the end is covered with weed block fabric. My newer versions have two of these instead of one to increase the wicking effect. The many holes around are 1/4" holes for airation. The outer bucket has an overflow hole and a water level gauge. The 1" pvc allows for filling the reseviour at the bottom.
