A roundtable discussion on occupational health and safety was held in Dhaka on 16 April.
The Daily Prothom Alo organized the discussion where different stakeholders took part to share their expert views on the challenges of ensuring occupational health and safety (OHS) in Bangladesh and ways to address them.
Speaking at the program BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mohammed Nasir said that the garment industry of Bangladesh has made tremendous achievements in terms of workplace safety under ACCORD, ALLIANCE and NAP.
He said that BGMEA is always sincere about safety and welfare of garment workers. BGMEA runs 12 health centers and 1 hospital to provide healthcare to the RMG workers at free of charge, he said.
BGMEA with ILO is organizing training programs for mid-level employees and workers of the garment factories on OHS, he added.
State Minister for Labour and Employment Md. Mujibul Haque, among others, attended the discussion.
