Nazim Mahmudov, a resident of the Sharur district of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, was summoned to the police on January 26 for a video interview with "Daily Naxchivan". Nazim Mahmudov himself informed about it. He says he was personally received at the Sharur District Police Office by Chief Nasib Nabiyev. According to Nazim Mahmudov, the police chief threatened him in his office:
"The chief told me that if you do not stop the interviews criticizing Nakhchivan, it will be bad for you. He threatened my family and me with death. He said that the fate of anyone who speaks against the Nakhchivan leadership is horrible."
Nazim Mahmudov says that police chief Nasib Nabiyev personally tortured him in 2015. The chief also threatened to repeat the torture:
"I was illegally arrested in 2015 for protesting against injustice in Nakhchivan. At that time, Nasib Nabiyev was one of the two policemen who tortured me. He personally hanged me and beat me until I lost consciousness. Now he says that if you continue to criticize Nakhchivan, it's the same. I will repeat the torture. "
We contacted the Sharur District Police Office to find out their attitude. The department did not want to comment on Nazim Mahmudov's statement.
On January 23, Nazim Mahmudov gave an interview to the "Daily Nakhchivan" about bribery and human rights violations in Nakhchivan. He accused the chairman of the Nakhchivan Supreme Soviet Vasif Talibov. After the speech, he received death threats from unknown people.
