Yesterday I was proven wrong. I have not seen it all. In the evening a man walked up to our counter and said he had found a little dog. He raised up this emaciated little pup and to my horror I seen tape around his muzzle! Honestly, I didn't ask the questions I should have. Like where? I just heard by a ditch. I didn't even say thank you for bringing him to us...i think. I just had to get the pup and get him to the back....to help him. Doc Phillips got the tape cut off and did a quick exam for other injuries. Through tears we watched this tiny pup eat, and eat and wag his little tail. Our whole staff was without words. We try our very best to help every creature that comes our way and we have to acknowledge that someone in our area is that mean, hateful to do something like this to a innocent little pup. In my 30 years of working here, I never thought I'd see this...in real life. The hair and skin under the electrical tape was almost raw and had that rotting flesh smell, so it had been there a few days. His emaciated body proved he was starving. But he was not dehydrated and still had a temp of 98 degrees. With the temperatures being in the teens the past few days and nights. He had to of been out there for a brief time. This morning I'm almost thinking he was a bait pup, waiting his turn. Then having to get rid of him quickly, they threw him out. A million things go through my mind, trying to absorb this. Bottom line, the evil person/people who is responsible will rot in hell. They already have no compassion, no heart and are stewing in a miserable day to day life. Karma.
On a good note our little pup is going to be just fine. He could not be more loved and we will nurse him back to health. He will get to know what a real puppy gets to do. He'll be adopted (I know a special family that needs him 😘) Thank you to the GAH staff. Dr Phillips, Dr. Amram, Alli, Mo, Jenn, April, Cheyanne for stopping everything to help, and being able to carry on as normal as possible through a busy, booked night.
